ABOUT JOHN HOLLOWAY
I graduated with a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from Otago University, New Zealand in 1992. I undertook research based at both the University of Southampton and the Malaghan Institute (Wellington, New Zealand) into the genetic basis of asthma graduating with a Ph.D. from Otago University in 1997. In 1997 I returned to Southampton and together with Professor Stephen Holgate continued my research into the genetic basis of allergies and asthma. He now heads the Respiratory Genetics Group, based in the School of Human Development undertakes a number of research projects into the genomics of allergy, asthma and other respiratory diseases. More recently his work has focused on the genetic and epigenetic basis for the role of early life in determining susceptibility to these conditions. This involves extensive national and international collaborations with both academic and commercial research partners. also have significant experience in academic leadership having filled roles as Associate Dean (Enterprise), Associate Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton including leading the Faculty submission to REF2021. I am currently (joint) Associate Vice-President (Interdisciplinary Research) with responsibilities including promoting interdisciplinary research across the institution and leading activities to promote a positive research culture.
