ABOUT IOANNIS VOUVAKIS MANOUSAKIS

I am a UC Berkeley Ph.D. candidate, studying Civil and Environmental Engineering. My research focuses on performance-based earthquake engineering, but I find great joy in exploring the research in my field more broadly and gaining a better understanding of things. My supervisor is prof. Dimitrios Konstantinidis. I passed my qualifying exam in June of 2022, and I am now in the process of submitting my first journal publication. I believe that modern research should be reproducible so that others can benefit by replicating the results to ease their understanding and enable them to further advance the research, so I try to adhere to that standard in my own work. I am passionate about programming, and I have been lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to work as a programming intern at the NHERI SimCenter, assisting Adam Zsarnóczay with the development and maintenance of pelicun. I believe that good code should be well documented, so that it\'s easy to understand, and well-tested, so that it can grow without the unintentional introduction of bugs. I therefore strive to maintain that standard when I develop code. Before coming to Berkeley, I had worked as a civil engineer at Tsiknis Engineering, which taught me how important it is to work in a team, meet deadlines, and be genuinely interested in satisfying the needs of clients.
