ABOUT JOHN TAYLOR
I am a Leader in Medicinal Chemistry, with responsibility for leading both people and projects to deliver results in a collaborative drug discovery environment. As a People Leader, I have recruited, developed and inspired a high-performing group of scientists, ensuring that they have clarity of purpose and that they have the ownership and tools to evolve their skillset to meet their needs, and that of the organisation. I am also proactive at implementing change, delivering new capabilities, and fostering a positive culture for collaborative research. I am motivated by bringing out the best in others, through my experience in management; mentorship of peers; and teamwork to deliver project goals. As a Project Leader, I have led multi-disciplinary teams across multiple functions, sites and organisations to design and deliver drug discovery strategies for difficult and unprecedented targets. I have also led more established projects, managing chemistry resource internally and with international CRO partners; generating & prioritising targets to modulate affinity and ADME parameters; in addition to working with colleagues in a range of scientific disciplines, to ensure project objectives are met. This has also entailed me engaging with external collaborators and stakeholders, making clear decisions and communicating difficult messages. I also maintain a passion for hands-on science and a track record of productivity and innovation. I have played a key role in driving forward a number of projects with my problem solving skills, as well as delivery of novel capability builds which have had wide-ranging impact. I am particularly interested in novel chemical enabling technologies, as well as new drug discovery modalities which can help deliver impact to patients with previously undruggable conditions.
