In my role as an Underwriting Support Technician at Apollo, I provide vital administrative and operational support across a range of insurance lines, working closely with underwriters to ensure the smooth execution of daily underwriting tasks. This role mirrors the responsibilities of an Underwriting Assistant and has allowed me to gain broad exposure to the insurance market and develop a strong foundation in underwriting operations.During my time at Apollo, I have worked across several classes of business where needed:Contingency (3 months): Supported underwriting of event cancellation, non-appearance, and prize indemnity risks. Gained experience in policy issuance, endorsements, and client correspondence.Aviation (1 month): Assisted with data entry, renewal processing, and compliance checks for aviation risks.Smart Follow (1 month): Worked with algorithm-driven underwriting processes, reviewing automated submissions and facilitating follow decisions.Property – Direct & Facultative (4 months): Provided support for complex property risks across international markets. Responsibilities included pre-bind checks, document preparation, and maintaining underwriting files. I currently provide end-to-end support to the Political Violence & Terrorism underwriting team, working closely with another Underwriting Assistant to ensure policies are managed seamlessly from cradle to grave. This includes overseeing all administrative processes for open market new and renewal business, maintaining accurate policy records, and ensuring timelines are met. I actively track and analyse exposure on specific Strikes & Terrorism risks, supporting informed underwriting decisions and portfolio management. Through this role, I have developed strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and market awareness, building the foundation for my progression into a full underwriting role.
