Business Program Manager Commercial Marketplace
Feb 2019 — Present
The lure of using our consumer ecommerce learnings at the scale of our commercial business felt as an opportunity for transformational impact. Doing so from within engineering (C+E) and shifting into a senior IC role was a welcome transition. With no ‘commercial’ experience, made the move to our commercial marketplace team. Delved into investigating what, where and how our ecommerce capabilities could be utilized. Was there a shared understanding on what it was? Were customers demanding experiences left unfulfilled? Discovered that the corpus of Marketplace had evolved, not from our Modern Commerce stack but from a legacy free listing service (akin to download.com). Critical juncture as it meant there was little existing understanding of what modern ecommerce entails nor the breadth of existing systems available. Rather than run, I dug in. Spent my 18 months educating and advocating. With the lure of ‘Merchandising’ and how we could close our experiential competitive gaps I begun a similar journey as above (standardized data models. conversion funnel to understand customer journey. CMS (content management system) to dynamically adjust the customer experience). While the coalition has grown, the pace, relative to consumer, has been slow. To channel my energy I took on a myriad of additional initiatives. Prior experience made me uniquely qualified to partner with PAX on the evolution of the Microsoft Store. Simultaneously built out the plan for the evolution of Store for Business / Education. Aligning across 13 VPs and 5 orgs to unwind and/or re-home these services. In addition took on our annual Microsoft GIVE initiative for our organization. By integrating it into our culture we leapt to the top 3 teams in C+AI and a model approach used across C+E. Lastly was D&I where I approached as a critical aspect of how we operated as a team (FY20 memo, top level OKRs to it\'s own monthly business update). Proud of what I led but more importantly on what we achieved.
