About John Slugg

As a Structures Engineer at SpaceX, I apply my engineering skills and knowledge to redesign the exterior composites structure and structural TPS components of the Dragon 2 spacecraft, a reusable spacecraft that can carry crew and cargo to the International Space Station and beyond. I employ new manufacturing techniques to make the new Dragon exterior significantly easier to produce and refurbish while also increasing structural capability. In my previous roles, I built and processed the Raptor 2 heatshield and the Raptor 2 engine itself, the most powerful rocket engine ever flown. Before that I owned the manufacturing of a majority of the Dragon 2 Backshell (between the nosecome and heatshield). I have a bachelor\'s degree in manufacturing engineering from Western Washington University and a master\'s degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University. I am passionate about advancing the future of space exploration and innovation.
