ABOUT JOHN SANTOS DE GODOY
I’m a Chemical Engineering student at UMass Amherst passionate about sustainable technologies, interdisciplinary problem-solving, and engineering innovation. As a member of the iCons Program (Integrated Concentration in STEM), I approach scientific and engineering challenges through a collaborative, systems-based lens that connects chemistry, physics, and data-driven analysis.Currently, I serve as a Drivetrain Team Engineer for Mass Mileage, where, as a team, we apply thermodynamic and mechanical principles to enhance combustion efficiency and optimize energy conversion in the redesign of a fuel-efficient vehicle for the Shell Eco-Marathon competition.Beyond engineering, I’m the Vice President of Leadership Development within my residence hall, where I help foster community, initiative, and personal growth among members. I also mentor first-year students and assist in creating accessible training materials for multilingual employees. These experiences have strengthened my communication, leadership, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.I’m driven by the intersection of science, sustainability, and human impact, and I’m always eager to connect with others who share a commitment to innovation and positive change.
