ABOUT JOHN S G WARREN

Principal Planner with Mabbett Associates in Scotland since July 2021. I have more than 30 years experience in all aspects of town and regional planning including for local authorities, developers and consultancy; from national planning to development management and from senior management to hands-on practitioner in UK, Middle East and Africa. This includes operating as a free lance town planning consultant in Scotland from 1993 to 2021 working on Local Plan representations and planning applications. In the Middle East and Africa, I was project manager for Local Development Plans and Master Plans, and early in my career, I was a local authority Senior Planning Officer for 5 years having an extensive experience of dealing with Structure and Local Plans and planning applications and was also a Land Acquisition Manager for a housebuilder. My achievements at Mabbett have been winning planning permissions for combined heat and power plants, water based heat pumps, office and industrial buildings and a distillery. Prepared supporting statements for wind and solar farms and proposed distilleries and an Environmental Statement for an anaerobic digestion pipeline. Current projects - tyre pyrolysis plant, an industrial access road and a pioneering passivhaus housing project. I am expanding the residential and commercial development side of the business in line with my previous planning career. Since 1993 I have obtained planning consent for some house plots and generated land values of some £100 million, all in Scotland. Mabbett is part of the Global Energy Group and, since starting in 1996, has operated as a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy working for major clients from offices throughout the United Kingdom. We are smaller than some of the major international firms in our field and we find that our clients find us more agile and personal to deal with. Our staff are engineers, designers and environmentalists covering feasibility studies, process engineering including mechanical and electrical, green energy, drainage, contaminated land, ecology, eco-audits, air quality, noise, safety, risk assessment, planning and architecture. A major part of our work is helping our clients to meet their compliance requirements and achieve Net Zero.
