John is a mathematician, lawyer, technologist and change agent. His career focus is building organizations around systemic social impact strategies.In 2011 John founded Ethelo, now widely recognized as one of the world\'s leading digital democracy platforms. Ethelo has won numerous awards and is a provider of governance technology to governments, organizations and communities. Ethelo is dedicated to building the technology and social infrastructure for a transformative democracy.Ethelo is powered by group decision algorithms John invented at the intersection of his math and law studies. Ethelo empowers groups to solve complex problems fairly and create solutions with broad support.In 2020 John launched the biotechnology initiative Seabrick, which converts agricultural waste fiber into floating, interlocking bricks. SeaBrick sequesters biogenic carbon in strong structural composite for low-cost, durable infrastructure. The vision: ocean habitats built of sequestered carbon, with water and food in abundance, and a refuge for hundreds of millions of climate refugees.In 2001 John founded Pivot Legal Society, which conducts strategic litigation and legal advocacy on behalf of marginalized communities. John led Pivot for the first ten years. John also led the establishment of Hope in Shadows, an annual photography contest and street calendar whose model has spread around the world.Ashoka recognized John as one of the world\'s leading social entrepreneurs in 2005 with a 3 year Fellowship.A lifelong student of meditation, John\'s favourite quote is:\"Everything rests upon the tip of intention.\"
