As the Superintendent in charge of the police operations bureau, I will play a crucial role in shaping law enforcement strategies and ensuring community safety. Specifically:Leadership and Transition: As Supt. of police operations of the newly established Grande Prairie Police Service, I am integrally involved in the transition from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to the new municipal police service. This involves overseeing the shift in policing jurisdiction and implementing necessary changes.Policy Development: Collaborating with the police commission, I will create and refines policies, procedures, and standards. These guidelines prioritize public safety, community engagement, and accountability. By establishing clear protocols, I will ensure effective and consistent policing practices.Community Involvement: Through the new police service, I will actively seek community input. This approach allows residents of Grande Prairie to have a direct voice in shaping policing strategies that align with the unique needs of the city. It’s not just about the uniform; it’s about addressing community needs and enhancing safety and well-being.Experience and Expertise: I bring extensive experience to the role. My 26-year career with the RCMP included years in plain clothes policing, serious crimes branch, missing persons unit, major crimes and strategic leadership and command roles. As Director of CISA, I led a team that contributed critical intelligence to organized crime investigations. My knowledge and experience will be crucial in addressing Grande Prairie’s crime severity index.In summary, the superintendent of the Police Operations Bureau is a pivotal figure in shaping the future of policing in Grande Prairie, emphasizing community involvement, safety, and effective strategies.
