WORK HISTORY
Research and Development Engineer @National Manufacturing Institute Scotland
Glasgow, GB
I am technical lead on 2 areas in NMIS Industry 4.0 capability, Industry 4.0 is all about connectivity from sensors and PLC on shopfloor all the way to business management tools such as enterprise resource planning applications. The first area I lead on is data storage where I\'m implementubg a Data Lake for all NMIS facilities which is a central resource for all data, using a variety of hardware and software technologies to create an on premise automated and cost-efficient data storage, like Amazon Web Services and Azure. The seconds area is wireless connectivity with focus on stand-alone (SA) private 5G network within the new NMIS Digital Factory. I am working to implement a test bed for 5G manufacturing connectivity, with NMIS becoming a 5G manufacturing hub for the Scottish government funded body.Additionally, I have worked on other projects to extract data from workshop equipment, connecting via data communication protocols such as OPC-UA, Modbus TCP, Siemens S7, MTConnect, MQTT and EtherCAT. This machine and data connectivity has then been implemented by me in different industrial IIoT platforms such as Ignition, High Byte, Kepware, GE Operations Hub, Siemens Mindsphere and TwinCAT3.Another part of this role is to provide technical knowledge to our members and the greater UK manufacturing industry, which provide with Industry 4.0 digital road mapping for companies starting their digital journey. I also attend events and conferences to demonstrate new uses cases and discuss with companies how they could achieve the technological advancement, providing them added value to their processes.
