About John Proctor

Currently working at Thermo Fisher Scientific with a team of scientists and engineers on next generation analytical instruments. Prior to my current position, I worked at Tibit Communications where I participated in the development of pluggable devices designed to virtualize the access network using industry leading Ethernet switching equipment. These devices allow Network Operators to manage their customers bandwidth needs via the cloud.Prior to joining Tibit, I worked at Gatan managing teams and hands-on engineering the development of high speed, high resolution camera systems designed to carry out a wide range of TEM/SEM applications especially those in the General Biology and Pathology fields. Before Gatan, I was Director of Hardware Engineering at Infinera Corporation. I have also worked in a variety of management and individual contributor positions at companies such as Cisco Systems, 3COM, USRobotics, Grass Valley Group, and National Semiconductor.I have a proven track record of taking projects, large and small, from inception through production. Leadership experience has included working in small companies as well as large ones, developing both consumer and enterprise products and managing teams across multiple sites including internationally. My career experiences have developed a strong leadership skill set from which to draw upon while leading teams to successful, on time, and in budget completion of projects.Specialties: Management, establishment, and staffing of engineering development teams. Engineering and management experience of broadcast and telecommunication products including routers, Ethernet, modems, DSL, video processing and compression, TDM, and optical transport systems. Exceptional technical background in FPGA, PCB design, embedded processors, DDR memory, digital signal processing (DSP), video compression, video signal processing, and data analysis utilizing C programs, Excel, and JMP statistical analysis tools.
