ABOUT JOHN POTTER

Joining Metrolinx in 2015 was a strategic decision to refocus my career on transportation design and delivery within the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. Based on my experiences working as a consultant, I recognized that the opportunity to influence design outcomes within capital investments would be greater working at Metrolinx. Inserting new transit infrastructure into an existing urban fabric inevitably creates localized friction with municipal stakeholders, elected officials, and impacted communities. Part of my role at Metrolinx involves looking for strategies and design solutions to mitigate the negative impacts of new linear infrastructure and to maximize the benefits of the transit investment for the city and its communities. Prior to joining Metrolinx, I worked at Perkins & Will, a global architecture and design firm that was ranked third in Fast Company’s 2015 listing of the “World’s Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Architecture.” I held several key roles at that firm including Practice Leader, founding member of the Project Delivery Council, Project Manager, and Senior Architect.
