John has a wealth of experience assisting clients with what he calls “Corporate Divorce” - helping business partners, shareholders and spouses disentangle their affairs when those relationships break down.John is a strong advocate for his clients. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Nunavut Court of Justice and all levels of court and various tribunals in Ontario.Through his sports law practice, John is lucky enough to be able to fuse his love for sports with his career by representing various amateur hockey and soccer associations, from the local to the national level.John represents both plaintiffs and professionals in matters involving professional negligence and professional misconduct allegations against accountants, lawyers, engineers, financial advisors, insurance brokers, dental hygienists and other professionals. Construction and real estate development are significant sectors of Ontario’s economy. John assists landlords, builders, developers, consultants, contractors and tradespeople in all forms of real estate, landlord-tenant and construction disputes, including under the Construction Lien Act, the Ontario New Home Warranty Plan Act (Tarion), and the Condominium Act, 1998.John has extensive experience assisting clients with fraud detection and investigations, and in pursuing the fraudsters to recover his clients’ property. He also helps clients in all aspects of banking litigation, including asset recovery, mortgage and security enforcement and financial restructuring law (bankruptcy and receiverships).John has experience with product liability cases and in environmental contamination cases. In addition, John has acted both for and opposite various levels of government and is therefore familiar with the added layer of complexity that matters involving governments sometimes bring.Other areas in which John assists clients include defamation, class actions and enforcing foreign judgments.
