ABOUT JOHN OLDFIELD

With over 12 years experience in software development, I thrive on building and nurturing teams from diversely talented people, who make amazing things happen when you give them the challenge and freedom to explore.I have succeeded at every challenge given to me (most recently at AutoTrader and now BJSS), listening, adapting and evolving my own skills to provide technical leadership and guidance. Continuously seeking out areas to apply my experience, I strive to learn and share new ways of working.From pairing with developers (perhaps for performing Test Driven Development, refactoring or discussing code quality), to pairing with testers (maybe creating stories suggesting testing methodologies and non functional aspects), through to being able to recruit people of any discipline with the right technical ability, behaviours and values (using an interview pack I created), I have the breadth and depth to make things happen.I have championed the quality and type of individual hired by AutoTrader in the past 4 years within technical disciplines. This has embedded the right individuals to nurture stars for the future.I believe in a Software Craftsmanship* extended to all professional disciplines, with a commitment to improve every aspect of work I do. The ‘rules of a Scientists Life’ and ‘The 5 Whys’ epitomises much of what I practice.I have applied my skills in contexts from Waterfall to Agile, but most recently have focussed on ‘discovery and delivery’ (Dual Track Agile) combined with Lean UX.I am logical, methodical and evidence driven.I have recently attended Agile Manchester May 2015 (https://goo.gl/OBY2GI) and enjoy networking with the rest of the technical community, through events like the Thoughtworks Technology Radar and Lean Agile ScotlandI drink way too much coffee (decaf from 2020) most days!
