The instrument being developed is based on He and Ne GFIS FIB technologies, and an advanced gas injection system. Specific challenges include beam placement with high accuracy (e.g. several nm) within a much larger addressable field. John also led a task force to understand what effects are limiting key performance metrics in the performance of the gas injection system that enables metered delivery of 5 distinct gases for etch enhancement, and deposition of insulators and conductors.
