ABOUT JOHN MORRELL
With experience in more than 50 countries, John is a proven team leader, international project manager, enterprise risk and governance specialist, and an economist. From conflict zones in Uganda, Burma and Libya, to the frontier markets of Micronesia, Maldives and Nepal, and to the uniquely challenging context of North Korea, John has a track record achieving results in difficult places. As the Regional Director for Asia-Pacific at the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), John leads a worldwide team of accomplished professionals and directs dozens of programs that strengthen property rights and rule of law, combat bribery and financial crime, economically empower marginalized communities, and support market-oriented democracy in emerging markets across the Indo-Pacific.The goal of CIPE\'s programs, funded by USG and non-USG donors, is to help level the playing field in emerging markets so that people from all walks of life are free to compete and succeed on merit, with equal opportunity to prosper. Other cutting edge programs led by John and his team bolster the economic sovereignty and democratic resilience of US allies in the region.John’s professional background is in the private sector. In addition to technology sales and financial economics, John investigated multinational companies for compliance problems, crafting tailored ERM strategy solutions. His professional experience also includes microfinance, political campaign management, and he founded a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting orphans in the Philippines and northern Uganda. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia, an MS in Economics from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University, and was a Graduate Fellow in International Management at Oxford University.John is the proud dad of three young boys, played NCAA basketball, and is a member of Mensa.
