About John Metzcar
I translate complex biomedical data into actionable knowledge using computational modeling, biostatistics, and machine learning to advance therapies in oncology and human disease. In short: data → information → knowledge → action, driven by interdisciplinary science, collaborative teams, and a patient‑centered mindset.I am a member of the Computational Oncology Platform within the Center for Immunotherapy & Precision Immuno-Oncology (CITI) at Cleveland Clinic Research. My work integrates mechanistic modeling, systems biology, and high‑dimensional data analysis to support precision immuno-oncology and translational cancer research. I collaborate with scientists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians, leveraging genomic, transcriptomic, flow cytometry, and other high‑throughput datasets to generate actionable insights that accelerate discovery and inform therapeutic strategies. I have particular interest in neuroendocrine tumors, endocrine oncology, and rare diseases.Previously, I conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota’s Therapy Modeling and Design Center, applying mathematical models to support experimental and early‑phase therapeutic development as well as clinical biomarkers. I earned my PhD at Indiana University through the NSF‑funded Complex Networks and Systems National Research Traineeship, with positions in Intelligent Systems Engineering and Informatics. My research focused on cell-cell and cell-environment interactions, signaling networks, and tumor microenvironment dynamics influencing cancer progression and response. I also hold a master’s degree in medical physics with a concentration in radiation oncology.Beyond research, I serve as President of the Association of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Disorders (AMEND) USA, advocating for MEN patients and advancing standards of care across the MEN and broader rare disease communities.
