4th Sfab Commander
Security Force Assistance Command
Jul 2023 — Present · Fort Carson, CO, US
In the final phase of my military service, I was competitively selected to lead an organization with more than 800 personnel, a budget exceeding $35 million, and $500 million in technology and equipment. This highly specialized organization was in the late-stage startup phase, and my first priority was to define the direction for these hand-selected experts – the cream of the crop picked through a well-defined talent identification process – who were tasked to assess, support, facilitate linkages, and advise 12 allied and partner nations.Communicating a long-range vision, I leveraged my experience from 2018 to 2020 to lead directorate-level efforts to formulate employment options for advisors organized into 50 teams, with permanent assignments in 6 international locations and rotational assignments to 11 other partner nations. Other highlights include- Establishing a bi-annual, 5-day key leader symposium to identify issues and opportunities, to conduct research, to define needs, to track solutions, and to develop 3-to-5-year plans- Crafting the concept and winning support for a joint integration center to integrate US assets with allies/partners’ capabilities; after leading the 12-month development and roll out phase, I proved the concept through a 35-day training exercise with 1,800 personnel from 5 nations. This concept was later implemented at 4 other similar organizations- Initiating a regular leader status assessment program – including 120 personnel at first line, supervisory, and management levels – to manage critical paths of 50 advisory teams in multiple international locations and to adjust task priorities as needed- Leading a 3-year project to plan, develop, and deploy a protected communications facility to enable continuous, worldwide connectivity – flattening the network and significantly decreasing miscommunication of key information; this plan included a long-range funding forecast.
