About John Lopinski
My legal practice includes patent and opinion work, and strategic development and management of patent portfolios. I focus on molecular biology, CRISPR-based technologies, virology, immunotherapies, cancer biology, and biologics for use in a wide range of human and non-human animal disorders. Prior to law school, I developed and taught courses in cell and molecular biology in the University at Buffalo’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences post baccalaureate program, which is designed to expand the pool of underrepresented, economically and educationally disadvantaged students in medical school. I completed my doctoral degree in what was then the SUNY Buffalo Center for Advanced Molecular Biology and Immunology, while simultaneously enrolled at SUNY Buffalo Law School and was a co-founding editor of the Buffalo Intellectual Property Law Journal. I assist a variety of clients with intellectual property needs, including large, publicly traded companies and smaller, privately held corporations. I especially enjoy working with university technology transfer offices and their faculty. I am a long-standing member of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM), where I serve on the Eastern Regional Meeting planning committee.

My practice includes patent and opinion work, and strategic development of patent portfolios. I have deep experience in molecular biology, genetics, virology, CRSPR-related technology, and immunology, focusing on complex immunotherapies, cancer biology, and diagnostics and therapeutics for a wide range of human and animal disorders. I provide regular advice to university technology transfer offices, as well as private sector clients that range from publicly traded corporations to technology start-ups and university spin-offs.
