ABOUT JOHN LEYS

I am the Managing Principal at Sherwood Design Engineers in the San Francisco office. I directly oversee and manage a number of Sherwood’s high profile local, national and international projects. I am a LEED Accredited Professional and a member of the US Green Building Council. I have a multidisciplinary background including degrees in Environmental Studies and Civil Engineering from the University of California. The approach I take to my profession is one that is rooted in my broad background and underpinned by three foundational elements that we based the founding of our company on:(1) Design must consider the local environmental context as well as regional and climate drivers(2) Design must consider the community that is served, be responsive and attractive(3) Design must be technically soundMy experience includes project work in utility infrastructure design, streetscape design, commercial and residential planned developments, green building design, parks and public spaces, roadway and trail design, water feature design, earthwork design and calculations, fine grading and drainage design, cost estimation, development of proprietary green design tools, integrated stormwater management, and feasibility analysis.
