About John Garrett

I am an actuarial analyst with PhD-level training in financial economics and several years of professional experience working at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. As a career-changer, I bring a uniquely useful skillset to the actuarial profession. During my time as a PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin, I gained deeper understanding of empirical and theoretical phenomena in financial economics, and had the opportunity to hone my leadership, communication, and public speaking skills through teaching experience. As a research assistant at the Federal Reserve, I standardized a complex statistical analysis used in bank merger casework by improving existing Stata code and writing clear documentation for usage. I used this analysis, along with other techniques, to assist in the evaluation of four bank merger cases. On top of this, I aided economists in their research endeavors using R, Stata, and Excel.
