ABOUT JOHN LECHMAN
Executive level development officer with 38 years combined volunteer and professional experience in the health care, social service and religion sectors. Proven fundraising track record for cases including pediatrics, hospitals, social justice, poverty alleviation, hospice, education, scholarships, child safety, overseas ministries, community-based ministries, faith communities, endowments and services to support the independence and well-being of people with developmental disabilities. Experienced capital campaign strategist and director. Highly experienced facilitator. Adept at board relations from both the board and staff sides. Past president of two boards, past chairman of eight committees. Experienced major gift officer into the seven-digit level. Highly trained, resourced and experienced planned giving officer. Significant experience training boards, staff, other development officers and volunteers to love and embrace philanthropy, bring a higher level of meaning and satisfaction to their donors and to their work, and get more gifts. Professionally led or participated in initiatives raising over $80 million since 2002. This was done not as much by asking as by listening. I am a second-generation development professional who prefers to view the world with a focus on abundance rather than scarcity. Exposed early in life to the process of philanthropic engagement by my mom, I learned that a generous heart leads to a richer experience of life. With that foundation, I\'ve spent my development career building relationships that have allowed me to learn what donors value and find meaningful, and how to engage them philanthropically around those values. That process of discovery and engagement around shared values has influenced change for the benefit of organizations, communities, other development officers, and philanthropists. I am a true believer that philanthropy moves at the speed of trust. I have a particular interest in creating strategies to convert philanthropic capacity to philanthropic momentum for organizations and/or communities. As an executive team member in an increasingly challenging environment for independent health care providers, I am interested in partnerships, collaboration, affiliations and shared services. I maintain a portfolio of nonprofit CEOs and Executive Directors for whom I provide pro-bono mentoring and coaching. Founding President, Hospice of Northwest Ohio Foundation.Former President, AFP Northwest Ohio. Memberships: National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation, Belmont Country Club.
