I was brought in to work on building a \"polarization-modulation infrared\" instrument. After several iterations and \"tweaks\" the instrument is working properly. It has yielded interesting information on the nature of methanol uptake on MFI zeolite nanosheets. More recent work has involved studying metal infiltrated polymer films, porous copper catalysts, and other system. The instrument was recently listed in the BNL \"user program\", which will make it\'s use available to researchers outside of the lab. It is my sincere hope that the instrument is used to it\'s fullest potential. I\'m quite proud of how it turned out, especially considering that several of the components were fabricated (by me) in the CFN shop. The learning curve was fairly steep, but I had several knowledgeable colleagues who helped sort out the problems.

ABOUT JOHN KESTELL
With over twenty years of experience, I have dedicated my career to physical chemistry, instrumentation, and analytical chemistry, blending technical expertise with a passion for innovation. After a many years as an industrial chemist, I returned to academics where I completed a doctorate in physical chemistry. Research involved both synthesis and spectroscopic/microscopic interrogation of catalytically and electronically interesting surfaces. As a post-doctoral researcher at Brookhaven National Laboratory, I contributed to building a cutting-edge polarization-modulation infrared instrument, now available for use through the lab’s user program. Recent work and educational experiences have involved infrared and UV-Vis analysis, porosity and surface area measurements, and method development and validation. I successfully completed Axion Laboratory\'s GC/HPLC Master Class, with an emphasis on method development, troubleshooting, and theory.I have demonstrated over many years of industrial, academic, and national laboratory research, an ability to quickly master skills and deliver high impact results. I have excellent drive, and have shown an ability to manage several projects (including high dollar equipment purchases). I am seeking an interesting opportunity in industrial science.
