ABOUT JOHN DEAN
Jack is a seasoned public transportation and regional planning management professional. As Senior Director of Research & Community Services, NJ TRANSIT, he provides guidance to the Local Programs department that administers federal and state community transportation grant programs and innovation projects for transportation to senior citizens, people with disabilities, rural and low-income residents in New Jersey, and guidance to the Market Research department that gathers customer insights from qualitative and quantitative analysis to advise and inform senior management.He provides capital and strategic planning analyses including developing Bus and Commuter Rail fleet management plans, microtransit and micromobility development, and coordination of federal transit research and grant opportunities. He managed NJ TRANSIT\'s Triennial and State Management Review preparation and FTA contractor on-site visits. Currently, Jack leads NJ TRANSIT\'s research into Automated Shuttles for community transport and vehicle automation strategies, including the on-going Autonomous Vehicle Testing and Research program, evaluating the suitability for low-speed AV shuttles to serve community-scale transportation needs through closed course vehicle testing and dialog with county transit managers.Prior to joining NJ TRANSIT, Jack served as Associate Director of Planning at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority/NY, providing regional socio-economic analysis, planning transportation redevelopment projects for Lower Manhattan, and leading a multiagency study of NY Penn Station rail capacity and enhancement alternatives. He also coordinated regional planning and Metropolitan Planning Organization processes for the MTA. He began his career in planning with the Regional Plan Association of New York, performing multiple studies on regional growth, socio-economic analysis, freight transportation, that contributed to the \"Third Regional Plan.\" He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
