ABOUT JOHN HAMPTON

An experienced, commercially focused and astute, driven, well seasoned, tenacious Senior Quantity Surveyor in fire sprinkler installations and passive fire protection systems, residential house building with over thirty plus years of experience. Since starting in the construction industry back in 1986, I,ve enjoyed a varied and interesting career to date starting as a trainee estimator for McAlpine Civil Engineering, working on motorway schemes including the M54 conclusion, bridge works, Roadford reservoir damn and road improvement schemes, Gatwick airport runway improvements, working my way up to assistant estimator for Amec Building working on large scale commercial construction projects with steel and RC framed buildings including work for the MOD and numerous refurb retail, leisure and education projects. Moving on to house build developers from Assistant to Senior Quantity Surveyor levels, working on new build open market spec housing, social/affordable housing, private apartments, retirement homes/villages, assisted living & extra care homes, refurbs and barn conversions. Then as the housing market tightened up during the last recession, I moved to the other side of the looking glass and undertook some freelance SQS roles working for a subcontract specialist joinery / fit-out company working on hospitals, schools/academy\'s and leisure/retail facilities, then to a specialist flooring/waterproofing subcontractor, again working in retail, education and health sectors including working on the Shard Building and Gherkin Building in London, then diversifying to working on the Critical National Infrastructure security projects for The National Grid through Galliford Try on NEC 3 framework contracts, before moving onto river/ canal widening/ fish and eel passes for the Environmental Agency. Finally moving back in the housing development sector working on new build private open market / social / affordable housing / apartments including timber frame / modular and high end prestige housing projects from 5 to 500 unit developments up to circa £80m in value as a Senior Quantity Surveyor / PQS and assisting in the mentoring of younger qs’s development. Experienced in COINS+/ OA / Oracle valuation/ procurement software systems & Sage, In-Tend, Viewpoint, MS Office, Excel & Word. TBC.on-going!
