ABOUT JOHN F.
I am a deep thinker and enthusiastic learner. As I\'ve gone through college, I\'ve found myself asking more questions than I\'ve found answers for, which is not a bad thing. My time in college has made me realize that I\'m not here to simply memorize facts and numbers, but to better understand how to solve multidisciplinary problems and be better suited to do so. The time I spent at my internship reinforced this statement, with me constantly troubleshooting every system I received in order to find a problem that was almost always unique or different and then applying my knowledge and understanding to resolve. The same was demonstrated in my senior year engineering capstone report where I needed to introduce myself to an entire 3 semester long ongoing project and identify our best methods for success and solving the problem in less than half a year! These problem solving and information processing techniques that I provided contributed to our group ultimately being acknowledged for our progress and success at the end of the semester. I hope to continue to both apply my skills while expanding my understanding in a career of my interest, likely in either the automotive or aerospace industries.None of these traits could have developed either without the lessons I learned through being a student-athlete for one of the highest academically and athletically demanding schools in the country. Through the football program at RPI, I developed numerous non-technical skills that are required in succeeding in whatever I set my mind to. This ranges from time management skills, to mental toughness, leadership/teamwork, and goal-setting. These skills are crucial parts of my life that I apply in my schoolwork, hobbies, and everyday tasks, without them, I would not be able to achieve any goals that I set.
