ABOUT JOHN EVANS
I have 40 years\' experience in risk, safety, availability and environmental assessment, mainly in oil and gas, but also in railway, nuclear and other industries. Based in London, I have worked globally, for consultancies, contractors and insurance companies. I am known for innovative and efficient solutions, enabling teams to work more effectively, collaboratively and with greater analytical reach. Engineering is an enduring fascination (but it\'s not everything). I find developing simple, safe and practical designs very satisfying. I am also very aware of the human and organisational aspects needed to get solutions adopted, With AIG I have been privileged to develop novel, transformative, tools and to be supported in this by AIG\'s management, engineering and underwriting community, to whom I am very grateful. Our EML model, SMARTBlast, is the first to combine common estimation methods to give underwriters a comparison of risk. It is also the first to combine property and liability in the same software, as it calculates fatalities and injuries as well as physical damage.
