John acts as an expert witness and arbitrator in international disputes, including 30 investor/state disputes. He has been appointed as expert in over 230 matters, and has been cross-examined 75 times, starting in 1985, in High Court cases, criminal and libel jury trials, and commercial and investment arbitration in 13 jurisdisctions globally. He works across a range of industries particularly mining, oil and gas, banking and telecoms. John has also been appointed as sole LCIA arbitrator, as Chair of a 3-member arbitral Tribunal in Cayman, as party-appointed arbitrator, as independent expert by the President of the ICAEW to resolve a privatisation dispute in Tanzania, as member of an arbitral tribunal in Dubai, Stockholm, Cayman and London, and as Court-appointed expert in London and Nassau.
