WORK HISTORY
Managing Consultant @Frazer-Nash Consultancy
Glasgow, GB
The Built Environment group (part of the Asset Integrity business area) currently comprises 10 consultants supporting clients facing a variety of complex challenges regarding their civil/structural assets, or interfaces with mechanical/electrical systems, often within highly regulated industries (e.g. energy, nuclear and defence). The group’s particular expertise is in assuring the safety of structures exposed to conventional and extreme hazards and conditions, such as earthquakes, blast, impact, wind, high and low temperatures, and corrosive substances. Since joining the group in April 2024, I have developed around twenty client proposals and I have played a key role in around a dozen projects, mainly related to safety case development for external hazards, particularly seismic, for nuclear (civil and defence) sites for various clients. We are an agile consultancy so often I have lead all aspects of these projects, including technical and financial.

I hold a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Imperial College London and I am a Chartered Mathematician, Chartered Scientist and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. In 2011, I was awarded the quadrennial Young Researcher Prize by the French Association of Earthquake Engineering.Subject-matter expert in Safety and External Hazard AssessmentsSince joining Frazer-Nash Consultancy in 2024, I have contributed to developing safety cases for nuclear-related facilities, ensuring they can withstand natural hazards. I also continue to conduct and review seismic hazard assessments for critical infrastructure, including nuclear power plants and defense facilities, often following the SSHAC guidelines.Academic and Research LeadershipIn my previous roles at the University of Iceland, BRGM (French Geological Survey), and the University of Strathclyde I led research to develop innovative hazard and risk assessment solutions. This work has been published in over 100 peer-reviewed articles. I chaired the Scientific Committee of SIGMA-2, a project aimed at improving seismic hazard assessments for nuclear installations, and I have co-authored a Technical Document for the International Atomic Energy Agency.Key Technical Skills- External hazard and risk assessment- Probabilistic seismic hazard and risk assessment- Earthquake engineering- Engineering seismology- Probabilistic risk analysis for external hazards- Engineering substantiation against hazards- Nuclear safety case development- General probabilistic modelling- Research and developmentPlease contact me if you are seeking a consultant for your projects, particularly those related to the assessment of external hazards.
