As a longshoreman of ILA Local 1235, I am sponsored as a yard carrier for Maher Terminals. My responsibilities include operating a straddle carrier along the truck line for receivals and deliveries of shipping containers. I work together with other operators to efficiently organize and structure the logistics of Maher Terminal’s shipping container yard. Other responsibilities include working with the crane on either operating a straddle or as a holdman on the ground helping to discharge or load back containers onto oversea vessels. Communication and safety are key essentials to achieving efficiency for the vessels to leave on time with no issues or accidents.
