A medicinal chemist at Vertex for over 30 years, I have worked on many facets of drug discovery including synthesis of compounds to improve structure-activity relationships, and most recently scale up chemistry to support high priority preclinical projects. As a key contributor to the early discovery team that made the protease inhibitor drug for HCV -\"Incivek\", I was part of the team at Vertex that gained approval in the US for the first protease inhibitor for treating HCV, approved by the FDA in both the US and the EU. I have worked on target oriented projects including protease inhibition, kinase inhibition, hepatitis C (HCV), HIV, COPD, cystic fibrosis, liver, lung, and kidney diseases. I drive innovation in myself and others to continue the success we have had in drug discovery. I use my knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry, and my abilities to work with others in a team environment to excel in my profession.My specialties include medicinal chemistry, lead generation, parallel organic synthesis, outsourcing chemical libraries, CRO management, flow chemistry including hydrogenation and other chemical transformations, large scale synthesis, structure based drug design, kinase inhibition, fragment based drug discovery, and intellectual property.
