ABOUT JOHN CARTIER

I currently serve as Attorney General of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska, representing the Tribe in civil legal matters and offering strategic counsel on sovereignty, tribal governance, economic development, intergovernmental affairs, and tribal business oversight. I’m also a partner at Omnus Law, where my practice covers Civil Law, Government Relations, Election Law, Nonprofit Compliance, and Employment Law.With a robust legal practice spanning civil matters, government relations, and election law, I lead Cartier Law, LLC in nonprofit and employment law, policy advocacy, and civil litigation. My areas of specialization include constitutional law, voting rights, political campaign compliance, journalism, ballot initiatives, legislative drafting, and comprehensive legal writing. I\'m licensed to practice in both Nebraska state and federal courts.Previously, as General Counsel for For Our Future Action Fund, I directed the in-house legal team and coordinated with outside counsel on nonprofit tax compliance, campaign finance, lobbying regulation, employment law, contract negotiation, and corporate governance.Early in my legal career, I served as Director of Voting Rights at Civic Nebraska. In that role, I led state-wide efforts in nonpartisan voter education, ballot access and election protection, and grassroots get‑out‑the‑vote programs. I also spearheaded strategy and legal interventions. I supervised the Voting Rights team, built coalitions, advised on legislative and policy initiatives, and supported litigation and advocacy efforts alongside legal and communications teams.
