About John Carter
John has over 20 years of experience conducting wind-tunnel and numerical modeling studies, including exhaust dispersion, pedestrian comfort, door operability, cladding loads, frame loads, and pedestrian level wind studies. John’s clients include architects, engineers, and developers of hospitals, universities, commercial laboratories, manufacturing facilities, and large residential and commercial buildings.John’s more recent areas of focus include enhancing understanding of natural ventilation potential for various building types through use of combined wind tunnel data and meteorological analysis, and reducing energy consumption in laboratory exhaust systems through creative wind tunnel modeling combined with on-site wind monitoring.John has written technical papers and articles for ASHRAE Transactions, the ASHRAE Journal, and other technical publications as well as numerous technical project reports. He has also been the primary reviser and/or a major contributor to the ASHRAE Handbook chapters or Airflow Around Buildings and Exhaust and Intake Design. Mr. Carter was also the co-author of the EPA’s “Best Practices for Exhaust and Intake Design” document, available through Labs for the 21st Century.
