About John Black
John Black is one of the nations leading authorities on Lean operations. Most recently, his consulting team helped healthcare professionals in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan to significantly increase capacity, save millions of dollars, and improve the quality of healthcare for more than a million province residents. Black\'s career of service to country and corporate America spans almost five decades, including pioneering Lean consulting work with Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle and Park Nicollet Health Services in Minneapolis. Substantially as a result of John Black and Associates work, Virginia Mason was named Top Hospital of the Decade in 2010 by the Leapfrog Group. In the 1980s, Black was a pioneer of Lean operations at Boeing and appointed to President Reagan\'s White House Council on Productivity, among other honors. Perhaps Blacks greatest achievement at Boeing was helping innovate the first moving assembly line in aerospace. Black holds an MBA, BA Sociology, MA Human Relations, and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He is the author of four books on Lean, including the 2016 second edition of The Toyota Way to Healthcare Excellence: Increase Efficiency and Improve Quality with Lean, as well as Lean: A World Class Production System (1998) and Lean Production: Implementing a World-Class System (2008).
