Dr. Ackerman directs community, school, and hospital efforts to educate others about the risks and warning signs of pediatric suicide. The CSPR promotes the delivery of evidence-based prevention strategies such as the Signs of Suicide in Ohio schools to support individuals at risk for depression and suicide. Dr. Ackerman and his team are passionate about reducing the devastating impact of suicide on the community. He recently collaborated with journalists, the Ohio University Scripps School of Journalism and suicide prevention experts to update suicide reporting guidelines for media: Dr. Ackerman in a member of the American Association of Suicidology, APA Division 53 (Child and Adolescent Psychology), and the Ohio Psychological Association. Dr. Ackerman has served as a clinical psychologist on the Mood and Anxiety Program at NCH. He previously directed the child clinical psychology fellowship program at NCH and has helped to develop a clinical education program that promotes cognitive behavioral therapy use in community behavioral health settings. Dr. Ackerman has contributed to ongoing investigations at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children\'s regarding risk factors for adolescent depression and suicide. He examines how aspects of brain functioning influence teens’ risk for suicidal behavior.
