ABOUT JOHANNES VAN LEYEN

The spark for becoming passionate and curious about science was ignited after I received my own diagnosis of Diabetes mellitus Type 1 at the age of 9. I decided early to look for answers and a better understanding of what I was dealing with. The initial lessons learned about the therapy options and the outlook for me as a teenager did not look promising, but raised questions if there is something that can be invented to improve my well-being, health and the simple fact to live a more independent, a normal life. Years passed, new therapy options became available and my desire to collect answers continued growing: where do all these new therapies and devices come from and how does it work to get these things tested and approved, so I can use them safely? Ultimately in 2004, after I had worked for 5 years as a registered nurse, I decided to find answers directly to the questions I raised as a child and this fire is still burning in me. Since 2016 now as a Clinical Study Manager, I serve as a global team player and –leader, bringing new and sometimes first-in man therapies to patients. When joining PPD in 2011, I started doing this as a fully homebased worker. I take pride in having contributed to achieving approvals for several new therapies, such as tele monitoring functionality in implantable cardiac pacemaker- and defibrillator devices, radiofrequency ablation catheters for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, monoclonal antibody therapy for both breast cancer and primary progressive multiple sclerosis (globally first approved treatment) and recently the global approval of a novel oral soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator to treat and improve the lives of patients with moderate to severe heart failure. My main goals are always to lead by example, being an open communicator with all affiliates and customers and to find the best solutions for all stakeholders. I am familiar and capable of acting in strong partnerships within multinational matrix teams, providing high quality from start to finish of studies in all phases of clinical development (Phases 1 to 4, NIS, IIT).The Story continues.
