ABOUT JOHANN GEST

Johann practices in intellectual property, with a particular focus on patents. As a patent agent, he helps protect his clients\' innovations through patents and industrial designs. Johann serves a wide variety of clients, from start-ups to multinationals. Using a customized approach, Johann develops creative strategies to meet his clients\' particular needs in order to valorize their innovations and maximize their return on their R&D investment. In addition to the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, Johann also prepares opinions on patentability, validity, freedom to operate and infringement. With an educational background in mathematics, engineering physics and electrical engineering, his expertise covers a wide scientific range, extending to electronics, optics/opto-electronics, telecommunications, software, green technology and business methods, among other areas. During his studies, Johann participated in the development of new all-fibre components, as well as optical fibre lasers and amplifiers. His doctoral thesis primarily focussed on the study of transients in Raman amplifiers. While completing his doctoral studies, Johann was also involved in designing a photonic blood glucose meter that did not require disposable strips, and which was the subject matter of a patent application.
