Dr. Johan Skog is a biotechnology entrepreneur, consultant, and thought leader in extracellular vesicle (EV) and liquid biopsy diagnostics. He was the founding scientist and Chief Scientific Officer of Exosome Diagnostics, where he translated pioneering discoveries in exosome RNA biology into the world’s first clinically validated exosome-based diagnostic tests — innovation that led to the company’s acquisition by Bio-Techne in 2018, where he continued as Chief Scientific Officer and Vice President. Earlier in his career at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Skog was the first to show that tumor-derived mutations can be detected in exosome RNA from patient serum and other biofluids. This work helped establish the foundation for the rapidly growing field of exosome-based liquid biopsy. Today, Dr. Skog advances EV and cfDNA technologies toward precision medicine. He consults for Exosome Diagnostics, a subsidiary of MDxHealth, and is the Founder and CEO of a stealth-stage venture developing next-generation diagnostics through multi-omic biomarker discovery and advanced assay innovation. With deep experience taking assays from biomarker discovery through validation, reimbursement, and commercial scale-up, Dr. Skog brings a rare end-to-end perspective on turning molecular discoveries into widely adopted clinical tools, expertise that anchors the scientific and strategic direction of his new venture.
