ABOUT JOEY LIMMENA
I was born in Indonesia and raised in the Philippines before coming to Canada to study mechatronics engineering at the University of British Columbia. During my time there, I would end up joining a startup competition and in 2017, I took a break from my degree to pursue and co-found my very first startup, Gravit8. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked on design:• Led an 8-week design program for the UBC UX Hub where I taught 100+ students• Facilitated 6 different business & design hackathons including Startup Weekend UBC and • • collaborations with Tecnológico de Monterrey and the MasterCard Foundation• Written design articles and became a Top-Writer in Design on Medium• Started the Minimum Viable Podcast• Helped my last company get acquired for USD$135MI live to design — whether through my work in user experience and product design, or in my personal life through fashion and videography. Every day is simply another chance to empower people, solve problems, and materialize the future.
