About Joey Weng

Board-certified family medicine physician and epidemiologist with expertise in pharmacoepidemiology, drug safety, and real-world evidence. My work leverages large-scale clinical data to evaluate medication safety and outcomes across diverse populations, with a focus on translating evidence into improved patient care and health systems.I am a board-certified family medicine physician and epidemiologist with advanced training in clinical epidemiology. Over the past decade, I have practiced as an attending physician in both primary care and acute care settings while developing a parallel career as a researcher and educator focused on real-world evidence and population health. My research centers on pharmacoepidemiology and drug safety, leveraging large-scale real-world data to evaluate the safety, effectiveness, and clinical outcomes of widely used medications. I also conduct epidemiologic studies across a broad range of conditions, including endocrine disorders (thyroid disease, diabetes, obesity), cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, dementia, hearing loss, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, and other chronic conditions. By applying advanced analytic methods to national and international datasets, my work aims to generate actionable evidence that informs clinical decision-making and supports safer, more effective patient care. I am a member of the Southern Network on Adverse Reactions (SONAR), an NIH-funded pharmacovigilance consortium.I have a strong interest in population health, primary care research, and health disparities, with many projects drawing on primary care data to identify gaps in care and opportunities for system-level improvement. I have led international research collaborations and contribute to national, multicenter studies focused on clinical outcomes and medication safety.Methodologically, I bring expertise in biostatistics and extensive experience conducting large-scale observational and outcomes research, with advanced proficiency in Stata and real-world data platforms. In addition to my research activities, I serve on the Clinical Faculty Advisory Committee (CFAC) at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, representing more than 1,500 clinical faculty members and contributing to institutional policy development and academic leadership.Through my combined roles as clinician, investigator, and educator, I strive to bridge clinical practice, data-driven research, and collaboration across disciplines—advancing patient care, scientific rigor, and innovation in healthcare.
