ABOUT JOEY FALCONI
I am passionate about helping others, a possible side-effect of being raised by a nurse. My paternal side is very hands-on, comprised mostly of mechanics and carpenters. These values were passed onto me and fueled by my curiosity and wonder for technology. In grade eight, I designed my first technical object meant to automate simple tasks for ALS patients. It brought me to the top ten engineering placements at the regional science fair, while also igniting a love for engineering and its potential to better society. I struggled to determine which field of engineering I should aspire to. My family\'s mechanics\' rantings about automotive engineers\' apparent lack of communication, resulting in questionable designs under the lustrous exterior, motivated my decision to major in engineering but with a minor in mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering. I believe that seeing the bigger picture and having versatile team members increases the efficiency of designs and the synergies of different systems. Upon the discovery of mechatronic engineering, I quickly saved a few years of my life and pursued that program instead! Now a few years into my studies, I am confidently satisfied with my decision and made the President\'s List despite a full course load and working part-time throughout.
