Ever since I started in claims almost 40 years ago, it always struck me that many folks weren\'t prepared for what they would face in the event of a claim. After becoming an agent, I made it my quest to explain all available coverage (and discounts) to everyone, and let them be the judge of what they want. In many cases, it was the small things (like rental reimbursement coverage) that when missing would cause the most grief. It\'s not the normal kid that wakes up in the morning, bounces out of bed, and exclaims \"I want to be in insurance when I grow up!\' That certainly wasn\'t me either. But what I do like to do is help people. I enjoy being the expert in a field that is of utmost importance, but most folks don\'t spend a lot of time thinking about. As I look to my 5th decade in the business, I can honestly say I have almost seen it all. In the beginning, I shared a computer monitor with a desk mate to process claims. Later, as an agent, we filled out applications on paper using carbon paper (for you young folks that\'s how we made copies of our work back then), and calculated rates using 5 inch binders packed with paper. What hasn\'t changed is that personal touch that brings confidence to the trust one expects from their insurance agent.So now, we live in a different world. If you\'re reading this, you\'re obviously on the internet, which didn\'t exist 40 years ago for businesses. The challenge now is to keep up with the \"warp speed\" of technology surrounding us. How do I solve this? Two ways. One, constant training for myself to keep up with the new way of connecting and doing things. I am regularly training and learning to enhance my capabilities. The second way is simply to hire young people to work in my agency. These energetic young people grew up right in the thick of the whirlwind of techno evolution, and they are inspiring to be around. I am fortunate to have 6 or more people employed full time who are ingrained in my old school philosophy but can tackle the fast paced lifestyle today\'s customers demand.See for yourself.
