ABOUT JOE VANHORN
I started off my career as freelancer running around the state operating cameras, pulling cable, setting up audio equipment and running replay at sporting events all over the state. I then found work at WSYX/WTTE. I started as a production assistant, quickly moved into a newscast director role (Good Day Columbus), and eventually was promoted to videographer for the station’s sales show (Good Day Marketplace). As I looked to continue my professional growth I was given the opportunity to work with the Department of Developmental Disabilities as an audio/visual specialist. It was a great opportunity to travel all over the state creating videos, taking photos, and recording podcasts. Then another door opened. I now work as a Tech-Based Training Developer with DODD. Moving to IT was always something I considered and, with the support of my peers, I was able to make it happen. I never stopped freelancing with local sports teams. I never stopped working on personal projects. I never stopped growing my skill set. I never stopped networking and asking for more opportunities.If I had to sum it all up and describe myself to an employer, I would keep it simple. I may not be the most talented, or smartest person in the room, but I’m a hard worker who treats others with respect. I support the people around me and will never shy away from a challenge. Anything is possible until you stop believing it is. Never stop.
