About Joe Simmons

Joe has 20+ years experience managing large and medium scale technology projects, most recently supporting Geeks Without Frontiers connectivity and emergency response proposals and initiatives. From 2003 to 2016, Joe led NetHope\'s global connectivity & infrastructure initiatives and was on the international first-responder team, leading the ground response in Haiti and Dadaab, Kenya. Prior to NetHope, Joe was a Director at the Rutgers Heldrich Center for Workforce Development; a consultant to the NJ Department of Labor; an engineering manger at cisco systems and a member of the Bell Labs technical staff.

   Joe serves as Project Director at Geeks and most recently is working on supporting the Ukraine Response. He previously supported delivery of a Disaster Preparedness Program for the Government of Afghanistan in Dubai. Knowledge and skills were delivered by subject-matter experts from the ITU, US Government, UN Emergency Telecommunications Cluster and Geeks without Frontiers to the 25 Afghan delegates from multiple government agencies and local network operators. Geeks’ vision and mission is to bring the benefits of internet connectivity to the estimated 3.5 billion people who remain unconnected to help close the Digital Divide and achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals
