Provides executive leadership for one of the most significant environmental archives on earth, with comprehensive oceanic, atmospheric, and geophysical data from the depths of the ocean to the surface of the sun and from million-year-old ice core records to near-real-time satellite images. Oversees day to day operations (~$100M annual budget -$71M direct,~$30M indirect; 500 personnel – federal, contract and academic) to ensure ingested data is safely archived per National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) standards and sustained monitoring, assessment and reporting of environmental trends is produced from data gathered. Supports environmental data product and service delivery across all sectors of the economy with continuous engagement and innovation to provide the best value to users- Jan. 2022 – Jan. 2023: Concurrently served as the Acting Director, NCEI- Sustained data ingest, archive, and access systems; exceeded all metrics and produced/enhanced NCEI’s signature products (Billion Dollar Disasters, Climate Reports, Magnetic Model) on time and of high quality, especially during a global pandemic with full remote workforce- Transformed federal hiring at NCEI after multiple years of declining staffing strength (~100 hires over four years netting +35 staff after attrition). Greatly improved and sustained organizational health as indicated by multiple Federal Employee Viewpoint Surveys- Jan. 2021 – Apr. 2021: Concurrently served as the Acting Director, Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR), responsible for scientific research and development that transitions state-of-the-art satellite environmental data, products, and services to operational use.
