About Joellen Valentine
Joellen Valentine joined Mastercard in May 2022 to manage the Business Conduct Office, which is the team of lawyers responsible for business conduct investigations globally. Prior to Mastercard, she spent 2 1/2 years as a Managing Director and Head of Litigation at ORIX Corporation USA, where she oversaw all litigation and employment matters. Before ORIX, she spent nearly 14 years as an Associate General Counsel at Citigroup advising on a wide range of legal matters, including federal and state litigation, regulatory subpoenas, and investigatory work. A tenured people and project leader, Joellen has successfully managed high-risk and high-profile litigation and crises, partnered with senior leaders to advise on a range of legal issues, and created a culture of compliance by translating policies and laws into meaningful direction. She currently serves on the Board of the Urban Justice Center and formerly served on the Board of the Columbia Law Review. After law school, Joellen clerked for the Honorable Gerard E. Lynch in the Southern District of New York and was an associate at Wiggin & Dana LLP as part of the firm’s White Collar Investigations and Defense Group. Her clients in private practice included companies and individuals from banking, insurance, consumer goods, and accounting. Joellen received her law degree from Columbia University where she was the seventh woman to serve as Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Law Review. While in law school, Joellen was a summer associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP.
