ABOUT JOEL JR LLABAN
Joel is a lifelong learner and international education leader committed to advancing transformative practices grounded in anti-racism and DEIJ within the international education community. With over 20 years of experience in education, he has held various roles including Learning Specialist, Instructional Coach, and schoolwide DEIJ Lead at The International School of Kuala Lumpur.Having worked at schools such as the International School of Brussels, International School of Beijing, and Cebu International School, Joel brings a wealth of expertise as a classroom teacher, department coordinator, and accreditation coordinator. He has spearheaded school-wide initiatives in curriculum and assessment development, professional learning, and innovation.Joel actively contributes to the advancement of international education as a team evaluator for NEASC and CIS accreditation visits. He served in advisory roles for the CIS Board Committee on Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Anti Racism and is a member of the Editorial Team of The International Educator.With a Master of Education in International Education Administration from Endicott College and a Certificate of International School Leadership from The Principals Training Center, Joel is dedicated to fostering inclusion, equity and diversity in learning and leadership. He teaches a course on Leading DEIJB in International Schools at The Principals Training Center and facilitates a range of focused professional learning for international schools and organizations.As a proud member of AIELOC and a course facilitator for its Certificate Program for DEIJ in partnership with SUNY, Joel is committed to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice within the education sector. He serves as a lead facilitator for the Diversity Collaborative and as the founding program lead for the ISS Learning to Action Institute for International School Leaders: Foundational and Advanced. Outside of his professional endeavors, Joel is a dog parent to Frida, a poodle, and Asgier, a schnauzer.
