ABOUT JOEL WESONGA
I am an aspiring lawyer dedicated to reforming the immigration system to better support those facing its challenges. As a part-time law student at Western New England University, my mission is fueled by my background as the son of immigrants from Kenya and Uganda, which gives me a unique perspective on the immigrant experience. I want to help break down the stigma surrounding immigrants and create a system where hardworking individuals can pursue and achieve the American Dream. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Urban and Community Studies from the University of Connecticut and currently work full-time in healthcare management. My previous role as a social worker for the Department of Children and Families (DCF) further enhances my diverse skill set. In addition to my studies and work, I am actively involved in my church, International Faith Outreach Ministries. As a first-generation law student, I am committed to advocating for marginalized communities with compassion and integrity.
