Joel’s international career spans over 30 years as an investment banker, financial analyst, metals trader and geologist. He is a former Managing Director in the Minerals Capital & Advisory Practice at Capstone Partners (Capstone Headwaters), Founder and President of Mercantile Resource Finance Inc, Manager of Derivative Finance in the Metals Group of Barclays Bank, and a Senior Analyst in the New Business and Strategic Planning Group at Billiton Royal Dutch Shell. Before commencing on his banking career, he worked as an oil and gas exploration geologist with Celeron Oil & Gas (Goodyear) and IP Petroleum (International Paper), and as a field geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey.Previously a Director of reporting public issuers Globex Mining Enterprises (prospect generator and metal royalty company), Etruscan Resources (gold producer in West Africa), Rupert Resources (gold developer), THEMAC Resources (copper developer in New Mexico), Sandspring Resources (gold developer in Guyana), Emgold Mining (gold developer in California), Claim Post Resources (silica sand developer in Manitoba), and private companies Hunter Energy (unconventional oil in the Bakken) and Sunshine Concrete & Materials (producer of ready-mix and construction aggregates in northwest Arizona).He earned a B.A. in Geology with High Honors from Colgate University, a M.A. in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin, and a M.S. in Mineral Economics from the Colorado School of Mines. He holds the ICD.D certification from the Institute of Corporate Directors and the FINRA Series 79 investment banking license.
